New Tint Academy Video: Window Tint Slip Solution vs PPF Slip Solution — Explained by Adam!

At The Tint Academy, we believe that understanding the science behind your tools and techniques is what separates a good installer from a great one. That’s why in our latest video, Adam breaks down the key differences between window tint slip solution and PPF (paint protection film) slip solution, showing exactly how to mix each one for perfect installation results.

💧 What Is Slip Solution — and Why It Matters

Slip solution is the lifeblood of every tint and PPF install. It’s what allows you to position the film perfectly before it locks down. But here’s the catch — the formula isn’t the same for every type of film.

  • Window Tint Slip Solution requires a softer, more lubricated mix that lets the tint slide easily but still tack quickly when heat is applied.

  • PPF Slip Solution, on the other hand, needs a more balanced mix that provides enough slip for alignment on large panels while giving the right amount of tack for edges and curves.

⚗️ Adam’s Go-To Ratios for Perfect Results

In the video, Adam demonstrates exactly how to mix each type of solution using simple, accessible ingredients:

  • Window Tint Slip Solution: A mix of distilled water + a few drops of baby shampoo or Johnson’s baby soap. The key is finding that “just enough” slickness to position the film without losing control.

  • PPF Slip Solution: A precise combination of distilled water and baby shampoo for your main slip, plus a separate tack solution using isopropyl alcohol and water for areas that need stronger adhesion (edges, corners, and complex curves).

Adam explains the ratios step-by-step so you can reproduce them confidently in your shop, no guessing or wasting film required.

🧠 Pro Tips from the Tint Academy

✅ Always use distilled water — tap water can introduce minerals that affect the film’s performance.
✅ Adjust your mix for temperature and humidity — warmer environments may need slightly more soap for better slip.
✅ Keep your slip and tack bottles labeled and clean — cross-contamination can ruin your results.
