What Is Paintless Dent Repair?
Paintless dent repair is a way to remove eligible dents, such as door dings, parking-lot dents, creases, body-line dents and hail damage, while keeping the vehicle's original factory paint. There is no sanding, body filler or repainting. A technician reads the dent under a PDR light or reflection board, then pushes the metal back from behind the panel with rods, or pulls it from the outside with glue tabs and lifters.
For suitable damage, PDR gives customers a faster and less invasive option than conventional body repair. That is why it fits so well alongside detailing, ceramic coating, window tint, PPF and dealership reconditioning work.
Watch: 5 Questions Everyone Asks About Learning PDR
In this short video, PDR Academy and Tint Academy answer the questions beginners ask most: how long it takes to learn PDR, whether you need automotive experience, what earning potential looks like, what kinds of dents PDR can repair, and which tools and training you need to start.
What You Learn in the 5-Day PDR Course
Day 1: PDR Fundamentals
Vehicle-panel construction, damage assessment, workshop safety, tool selection and reflection-light setup. You start building hand-eye coordination with controlled pushing exercises.
Day 2: Dent Reading and Tool Control
Reading reflection patterns, finding the tip of your tool behind the panel, controlling pressure, correcting lows, reducing high spots and releasing tension around the dent crown.
Day 3: Panel Access and Glue Pulling
Safely accessing doors, hoods, fenders and other panels, working around braces, trim and wiring, and hands-on glue pulling with tabs, mini lifters and slide hammers.
Day 4: Advanced Dent Repair
Larger, deeper and sharper dents, body-line repair, controlled heat, crown blending, knockdowns and combining traditional pushing with glue pulling. Aluminum panel considerations are covered too.
Day 5: Complete Repairs and the PDR Business
Taking a repair from inspection to final quality control, then estimating, retail and dealership pricing, customer communication, mobile or shop setup, photography and marketing.
