Tint Academy students learning window tint and PPF installation in a hands-on certification course

Window tint certification is structured, hands-on training that teaches you to prepare glass, cut, heat shrink and install automotive window film, and ends with a certificate from the school. At Tint Academy, both our window tint course and our PPF certification course run 2 full days in cities across Canada and the USA. The 2-day window tint class is listed at $1,299 and the 2-day PPF class at $1,699, and no previous experience is needed.

We've trained more than 6,500 students over 10 years of window tint training. This guide explains what window tint and PPF certification really means, how long training takes, what it costs, what you'll learn, who it's for and how to choose a school. It also lists every upcoming class with open dates in Canada and the USA.

What Window Tint and PPF Certification Means

A window tint or paint protection film (PPF) certification is a training credential from the school that trained you, not a government licence. What customers, shops and dealerships pay for is your skill, and a certification course gives you a structured way to build that skill quickly, with an instructor correcting your technique on real vehicles, plus a certificate that shows you've completed professional training.

  • Window tint certification covers automotive window film: preparing glass, film handling, cutting by hand, heat shrinking rear windows, installing on every window type, removing old tint and avoiding contamination.
  • PPF certification covers paint protection film: surface preparation, slip and tack solutions, bulk and pre-cut installs, stretching, edge wrapping and full panels such as hoods, fenders, mirrors and bumpers.

A certificate on its own won't make you an expert. Professional tinting takes practice. The goal of good training is to give you the right foundation, techniques, tools and ongoing support so you keep improving after class.

How Long Does Window Tint Training Take?

Tint Academy's in-person window tint training is 2 full days, usually 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM each day (hours can vary slightly by location). The PPF training class is also 2 days. Here's how the window tint course is structured:

Day 1: Foundations and Side Windows

  • Window tint theory and fundamentals, tools and professional film
  • Vehicle and glass preparation, and working with customers
  • Installation drills
  • Roll-down windows: framed / 2-stage, frameless and quarter windows
  • Tint removal, sun strips and banners
  • Marketing and business fundamentals

Day 2: Rear Windows and Complete Vehicles

  • Review and more hands-on practice
  • Heat shrinking, plus hatchback and sedan rear-window installation
  • Rear-window tint removal, trucks and SUVs
  • Plotter overview and an introduction to residential window film
  • Pricing, quoting, marketing and booking customers

The learning continues after day two. You get lifetime mentor support, the Online Window Tint Training Course to review techniques, supplier access and future observation or re-attendance opportunities for extra practice.

Watch: What Our Students Say

The best way to judge a window tint school is to hear from people who've taken the course. These are real Tint Academy students from our YouTube channel.

Day 1 Terrified, Day 2 Clients Booked

On day one, Mackenzie had no idea what she was doing. Two days later she walked out of our window tint course in Kelowna, BC feeling confident, and she already had 4–5 customers booked. She found Tint Academy on Instagram and signed up to learn a new skill.

Justin from North Bay, Ontario

Justin spent the weekend training hands-on with Tint Academy Canada, building the skills he needs to tint vehicles confidently. In this testimonial he shares what he learned and what it was like training with our team.

How to Choose a Window Tint School

Whatever school you look at, these questions show you what you'll actually get for your money:

  1. How much is hands-on? You should spend most of the class tinting real vehicles yourself, not watching an instructor work.
  2. How big are the classes? Smaller groups mean more time on glass and more one-on-one correction.
  3. Does it cover the hard parts? Look for heat shrinking rear windows, frameless and quarter windows, trucks and SUVs, and tint removal.
  4. What do you take home? Tools and film let you keep practising right away.
  5. Is there support after class? Mentor access, online lessons and the option to come back and practise make a big difference in your first months.
  6. Is the business side included? Pricing, quoting, marketing and booking customers turn a skill into income.
  7. Can you talk to past students? Watch real student testimonials, like the ones above, before you book.
