Tint Academy has trained more than 6,500 students over 10 years across Canada and the USA. Toronto classes are kept small on purpose, so you spend your time with film in your hands instead of watching from the sidelines.

What you'll learn in two days

Students work through the real installation process with instructor guidance, on real vehicles.

Day 1: foundations and side windows

  • Tint theory and fundamentals, glass cleaning and vehicle preparation
  • Working with customers
  • Film handling, measuring, hand cutting and installation drills
  • Roll-down windows (framed and 2-stage), quarter windows and frameless windows
  • Tint removal, sun strips and windshield banners
  • Marketing and business fundamentals

Day 2: rear windows and complete vehicles

  • Heat shrinking and installing hatchback and sedan rear windows
  • Rear-window tint removal
  • Trucks and SUVs
  • Plotter overview and an introduction to residential window film
  • Pricing, marketing and booking customers

Across both days you also work on bottom-loading, contamination prevention, edge finishing and avoiding bubbles and other common installation mistakes. To be honest about it: two days won't make anyone a master installer. What it gives you is a correct process and a clear idea of what to practise next, and you go home with the tools and film to do exactly that.

Watch: the back-window skills you'll practise in class

Rear windows are where most new tinters struggle. In this video, Adam from Tint Academy breaks down the four most common back-window mistakes: skipping a proper dry shrink, not building the four-quadrant "H pattern", fingers that aren't vertical or not enough heat, and skipping the wet shrink. He also shows how to fix each one.

Nervous about using a heat gun? This short shows the approach taught in class: about 4–5 seconds of heat, working from the outside in, in 1-inch segments.

Ontario window tint laws every new tinter should know

Customers will ask what's legal, so you need to know the rules before you start quoting jobs. Ontario's Highway Traffic Act, s. 73 says:

  • You may not drive a vehicle whose windshield or windows are coated in a way that obstructs the driver's view of the highway or any intersecting highway (s. 73(2)).
  • The windshield and the windows directly to the left and right of the driver may not carry coloured or reflective material that substantially obscures the interior when viewed from outside (s. 73(3)).

Ontario's MTO Passenger / Light-Duty Vehicle Inspection Standard, used for Safety Standards Certificates, adds specific numbers for vehicles manufactured on or after January 1, 2017:

  • The vehicle fails if light transmittance is less than 70% on any window directly to the left or right of the driver.
  • The vehicle fails if aftermarket tint is applied to the windshield, or if tinting extends more than 75 mm from the top of the windshield or beyond the AS line.

This is general information, not legal advice. Rules can change, so check the official sources and advise your customers honestly.

Window tint course Toronto: FAQ

When and where is the December window tint course in Toronto?

Saturday December 19 and Sunday December 20, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM each day, at Jax Wax Factory Warehouse, 20280 Bathurst St, Holland Landing, ON, north of Toronto in York Region.

How much does the Toronto window tint course cost?

Regular tuition is $1,299 CAD. A limited number of Early-Bird seats are offered at $1,097 CAD full pay (save $202) if you contact the registration team before you register. You can also reserve with a $350 deposit ($1,197 CAD total), with the remaining balance due at class. Applicable taxes are additional.

Do I need experience to take a window tint course?

No. The course is built for beginners, detailers and people already running an automotive business. You learn the installation process step by step on real vehicles with an instructor beside you. Two days will not make you a master installer, so plan to keep practising afterwards.

What do I take home after the course?

A professional Tint Tool Kit and a 100 ft. roll of ceramic automotive window film, which you keep, plus your Tint Academy Certification, access to the online window tint training course, supplier access and lifetime mentor support.

How dark can window tint be in Ontario?

Ontario's Highway Traffic Act (s. 73) prohibits colour coating that obstructs the driver's view and any coloured or reflective material on the windshield or the windows directly left and right of the driver that substantially obscures the interior from outside. For a Safety Standards Certificate, the MTO inspection standard rejects vehicles made on or after January 1, 2017 if those front side windows let through less than 70% of light, or if aftermarket tint is applied to the windshield (beyond the permitted top band).

Does Tint Academy offer PPF training in Toronto too?

Yes. Paint protection film (PPF) is a separate course at the same Jax Wax Factory Warehouse venue. Call or text 289-201-2070 for the next Toronto PPF dates, tuition and seat availability, or to ask about a Tint + PPF package.
