A windshield sun strip is a quick add-on, but the top of the windshield is the most visible line on the car. Here's how to install a clean one in four steps, plus details on our 2-day hands-on Dallas–Fort Worth window tint course on November 14–15, 2026.

How to Install a Windshield Sun Strip in 4 Steps
1. Measure and mark the line.
Find the legal line for the vehicle and mark it on the outside of the windshield. In Texas, the strip can't go below the AS-1 line, or 5 inches from the top if the glass has no AS-1 mark. Always check current law.
2. Shape it on the outside.
Lay the strip on the outside of the glass, liner facing you, and use a little heat to shrink out any fingers along the curve so it lays flat.
3. Cut a clean, straight bottom edge.
Use a straightedge or a steady hand guided along your mark. A wavy line across the top of a windshield is the first thing every customer notices.
4. Install from the center out.
Wet the inside glass, place the strip, anchor the middle, and squeegee out to each side. Finish the bottom edge with a hard card so it doesn't lift.
