Nevada Window Tint Laws for New Installers

Before you quote your first Las Vegas customer, learn the state rules. Under NRS 484D.440:

• Front side windows (immediately left and right of the driver) must be nonreflective and have a total light transmission of at least 35%, with a tolerance of 7%. That figure covers the film and the glass combined.
• Rear side windows and the rear window may be tinted darker if the vehicle has outside mirrors on each side that give the driver at least 200 feet of view to the rear.
• Windshield: film is allowed only on the topmost portion, with its bottom edge at least 29 inches above the undepressed driver's seat (measured as the statute describes), and it must not be red or amber.

The statute also lets the DMV Director create exemptions by regulation, and says a violation is not a moving traffic violation. In practice, owning a tint meter and checking the combined VLT on front side windows protects both you and your customer. This is general information, not legal advice. Always check the current law.

Starting a Window Tint Business in Nevada

Tint Academy certification shows that you completed hands-on training. It is not a government license (learn more in Window Tint Certification Explained). Under NRS Chapter 76, a person generally may not conduct business in Nevada without a state business license from the Secretary of State, available through the SilverFlume portal. The state license is in addition to any local business license that your city or county requires. Check with your local licensing office before you take paid jobs. Already a Detailer? Add Window Tint

Many students already run detailing or ceramic coating businesses and want another service to offer the same customers. In this short student review, Dan from Mulli's Auto Detailing in Eden, New York, explains that after 14 years of detailing and ceramic coatings, he took Tint Academy's course and is now adding window tinting to his shop.
