Who This Nashville Tint Training Is For
The course was built for people starting from zero. You do not need any previous window tinting experience. It also works well if you already work on cars and want to add a service. It is a good fit for:
- Beginners who want a hands-on trade and are thinking about mobile tinting or opening a shop
- Auto detailers and ceramic coating installers who would rather tint their customers' cars than send them to another shop
- PPF, wrap, auto glass, wheel and dealership professionals who want to offer more services to the customers they already have
Tint Academy has trained more than 6,500 students over 10 years. The class is designed to teach you the right techniques and give you supervised practice. We do not promise you will become a master installer in a weekend.
Why detailers add window tint
In this short video, Adam from Tint Academy explains why auto detailers should learn window tinting. Adding tint lets you earn more from each customer, become a one-stop shop for appearance and protection services, and keep customers from going elsewhere.

A rear-window tip you will practice in class
Heat shrinking the back window is the skill most beginners find hardest. In this Short, the instructor wipes the glass with a soaked dryer sheet and lets it dry completely. That leaves a light soapy layer so the film floats and you can shrink and move the "fingers" without the film sticking.

Tennessee Window Tint Law Every Nashville Installer Should Know
Under Tennessee Code Annotated § 55-9-107:
- 35% VLT minimum: It is unlawful to add tint material with a visible light transmittance below 35% to a vehicle's windows.
- Windshield: Except for the manufacturer's shade band, aftermarket material may not bring the windshield below 70% VLT.
- Installer responsibility: Anyone who installs tint for pay counts as a "professional installer" under the law. It is unlawful for professional installers to tint a vehicle in a way that breaks the law.
- Compliance label: Professional installers must put a label on the lower right corner of the driver's window showing their business name and the words "Complies with Tennessee Code Annotated, § 55-9-107."
- Signed receipt: Each customer must get a signed receipt showing the install date, the vehicle's make, model, color and plate, and the compliance legends required by the statute.
- Medical exemptions: Drivers with a qualifying medical condition can apply to the commissioner of safety for an exemption.
Breaking the statute is a Class C misdemeanor. Always check the current law before taking paid jobs. If you are starting a business, the Tennessee Department of Revenue says new businesses generally register and get a business license from their county or city clerk.
