Can a detailer add window tint to their business? Dan has run Mulli's Auto Detailing in Eden, New York for 14 years, doing car detailing and ceramic coatings. He drove up from the Buffalo area to our Toronto window tint class to add one more service to the business he's already built. Here's his story, what other detailers can learn from it, and why you don't need to be a detailer to start.

"I run a detailing business. I've been doing this for 14 years. Car detailing, ceramic coatings. Now we're going to be adding window tinting... This has been very informational. I'll definitely put this to use in the future."

Adding Window Tint to a Detailing Business: Your Next Service Is Already in Your Bay
If you detail, coat or wrap cars, look at what Dan did. He didn't go looking for new customers. He looked at the cars already coming through his door.
- You already have the trust. A customer who lets you correct their paint or coat their car has already decided you take care of their vehicle. Asking "want the windows done too?" is a small step.
- You already have the car. Every detail or coating job is a car sitting in your bay. Tint is a service you can quote on the spot instead of sending that customer to another shop.
- Learn it properly before you sell it. Tint is a hands-on skill: prep, cutting, heat shrinking rear windows, clean edges. That's why Dan made the drive to Toronto for a 2-day hands-on class instead of figuring it out on customer cars.
If you already run a shop, ask yourself: how many customers asked about tint this year that you sent somewhere else? Once you're trained, our guide on what to charge to tint a full car will help you set your prices.
Not a Detailer? You Don't Need to Be.
This class isn't only for shop owners. It's also for people changing careers, people starting from zero, side-hustlers, and car enthusiasts who want to learn tint the right way. Here's why you can start without a detailing background:
- No experience needed. The class starts from the basics: tint theory and glass prep come first, then you work up to side and rear windows on real vehicles.
- You leave ready to practice. You take home a professional Tint Tool Kit and a 100 ft. roll of ceramic film, so you can keep practicing right away and work toward your first paid jobs.
- The business side is included. Marketing, pricing and booking customers are part of the 2 days, not an extra.
Two practical first steps after class:
- Practice on your own car and on friends' and family cars before you charge anyone.
- Start with side windows. Rear windows take more practice, so build up to them.

What You Do in the 2-Day Window Tint Course
- Day 1, foundations + side windows: tint theory, glass prep and contamination control, roll-down windows (framed and 2-stage), quarter and frameless windows, tint removal, sun strips and banners, plus marketing and business basics.
- Day 2, rear windows + full vehicles: hatchback and sedan rear windows, rear-window tint removal, trucks and SUVs, a plotter overview, an intro to residential film, and marketing, pricing and booking customers.
You leave with a professional Tint Tool Kit and a 100 ft. roll of ceramic automotive window film to keep, plus your Tint Academy Certification.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a detailer add window tint to their business?
Yes. Detailers already have the customer's trust and the car in the bay, so tint is a natural add-on service. The key is learning it properly first, which is why Dan, a 14-year detailer, took a 2-day hands-on window tint course before offering it.
Do I need detailing experience to take a window tint course?
No. Tint Academy's course starts from tint theory and glass prep, then builds up to side and rear windows on real vehicles, so complete beginners, career changers and car enthusiasts can join.
How long is the Tint Academy window tint course?
Two days, hands-on. Day 1 covers foundations and side windows; Day 2 covers rear windows, trucks and SUVs, and the business side: marketing, pricing and booking customers.
