Window tint tools and ceramic film staged in a Montreal-area shop — start a window tint business course

To start a window tint business in Montreal or elsewhere in Quebec, you need three foundations: professional installation skill, a lawful business setup with the Registraire des entreprises and Revenu Québec when those rules apply, and a plan for serving a bilingual market. Tint Academy's next Montreal-area hands-on Window Tint Certification runs November 28–29, 2026 (9:00 AM–5:00 PM each day) at Place Nobel, 1999 Rue Nobel, Sainte-Julie, QC J3E 1Z7 — a practical way to learn the craft before you hang a shingle or add tint to an existing shop.

Tint Academy has trained 6,500+ students over 10 years. This guide focuses on launching or expanding a tint service in Greater Montreal — REQ registration basics, GST/QST, bilingual customer service, and how the Sainte-Julie class fits your plan. For Quebec front-window light rules, see our earlier Montreal window tint course and Quebec tint laws guide.

Why Montreal Is a Strong Market for Window Tint

Greater Montreal — Sainte-Julie, Longueuil, Laval, the South Shore and the Island — has detailing shops, dealerships, wrap studios and mobile installers. Customers want heat rejection, privacy and installs that respect Quebec's front-glass limits.

If you already detail, install PPF or wraps, or run ceramic coating, tint is a natural add-on for customers already in your bay. Starting from scratch? Montreal rewards clear French and English as much as clean edges.

Step 1: Learn Professional Window Tinting Hands-On

Paperwork does not fix bubbles or contaminated edges. Learn the process on real vehicles with instructor feedback before you quote dealerships.

Tint Academy Canada's Montreal Window Tint Certification is about 80% hands-on. Over two days you practise glass prep, film handling, hand cutting, heat shrinking, framed and frameless roll-downs, quarters, sedan and hatchback rears, trucks and SUVs, removal, sun strips and edge finishing. No prior experience is required.

Tuition includes a tool kit and 100 ft. of ceramic film you keep, certification, the online course, business training, supplier access, lifetime mentor support and future re-attendance options. See how to become a certified window tinter and window tint certification explained.

Step 2: Register Your Enterprise in Quebec (REQ)

According to the Gouvernement du Québec, most enterprises must register with the Registraire des entreprises as soon as they are created by filing a declaration of registration. You then receive a Québec enterprise number (NEQ).

Who must file depends on your legal form. Sole proprietors using a trade name that does not include their first and last names generally must register; those using their own first and last names may register voluntarily. Check About the Registration of an Enterprise on quebec.ca. This is general information, not legal advice.

Keep your register file up to date and pay annual fees that apply. Use the Registraire's current rates — fee schedules change.

Step 3: GST and QST with Revenu Québec

Revenu Québec explains that, as a rule, you must register for GST and QST if your total worldwide taxable supplies (including associates) exceed $30,000 in a calendar quarter or the four preceding quarters. Small-supplier rules and special cases apply.

Register online via Revenu Québec or with form LM-1-V. See Registering for the GST and QST and How to Register. Build tax into quotes early. Not tax advice — verify your situation.

Step 4: Serve Montreal's Bilingual Market

Across the South Shore and the Island, many customers expect French, English or both. Practical steps:

  • Prepare quotes and aftercare sheets in French and English
  • Answer the phone and messages in the customer's language when you can
  • Know Quebec's front-window light rules before you sell dark film on driver-side glass (details in our Montreal / Quebec tint laws post)
  • Photograph finished jobs with permission and post captions bilingually
  • Partner with local detailers, dealerships and wrap shops who need a reliable installer

The course covers pricing, quoting, marketing, mobile vs shop work, adding tint to an existing business and dealership outreach, with lifetime mentor support after class.

Adding Tint to an Existing Automotive Shop

If you already run detailing, PPF, wraps or ceramic coating, you do not need a second storefront on day one. Many students add tint in their current bay for customers already on the schedule.

In the video above, Adam explains why detailers benefit from learning tint and how it can grow a mobile or shop business — the same idea helps wrap and PPF studios that want one more service for existing customers.

Montreal Course Pricing

  • Regular tuition: $1,299 CAD
  • Early-Bird full pay: $1,097 CAD (save $202) — message or call the team first to confirm a discounted seat
  • Deposit: $350 today ($1,197 CAD total, remaining balance due at class)

Taxes are extra. Early-Bird seats are limited. Earnings depend on skill, pricing, location and costs; Tint Academy does not guarantee income or employment.
