Tint Academy Winnipeg window tint course, Nov 28-29, 2026 at Slick Tint, 231 Oak Point Hwy, Winnipeg MB

Can you install window tint in a Winnipeg winter? Yes, but cold weather changes the job. Window film goes on wet and cures as the last of the water evaporates, and cold glass slows that down. Here's how professional tinters handle cold-weather installs, and how you can learn it hands-on at our Winnipeg window tint course on November 28 & 29, 2026 at Slick Tint.

Why Cold Weather Matters for Window Tint

A tint install uses a slip solution so the film can be positioned on the glass. You squeegee most of the water out, and the rest slowly evaporates through the film as it cures. In a Manitoba winter, everything about that process slows down: the glass is cold, the days are short, and there's less sun to help the film dry.

5 Cold-Weather Window Tint Tips

  1. Work in a heated bay. Don't tint outside or in a freezing garage. Warm space and warm glass make the film easier to handle and help it cure.
  2. Let the vehicle warm up first. A car that just came in from the cold has cold glass. Give it time inside before you start prep.
  3. Squeegee harder and more thoroughly. The less water left under the film, the faster the cure. Use firm, overlapping strokes and pay attention to the edges.
  4. Set expectations before the customer leaves. Some haze or small water pockets during the cure is normal, and it can take longer in cold weather. Customers who know this in advance don't call you worried.
  5. Give clear aftercare. Tell customers to keep the windows rolled up for a few days, and longer when it's cold, so the film isn't disturbed before it bonds.

Get these right and winter becomes a working season instead of a slow one. Once you're ready to charge for your work, see our guide on what to charge to tint a full car, and where to find your first 5 window tint customers.
